Abstract

The Eleven Sand Houses in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, is a unique architectural project designed to blend seamlessly with the desert environment. The design philosophy emphasizes the integration of architecture with the natural landscape, using local materials and innovative construction techniques to create a series of low-profile, sand-colored structures. The buildings are arranged in a way that mimics the natural flow of the desert, with open courtyards and pathways that encourage exploration and interaction. The project's design also addresses practical challenges such as wind protection and thermal insulation, ensuring both functionality and aesthetic appeal in an extreme environment.
