Abstract

Woody biomass is expected to be an energy source for local production for local consumption in Japan, a country with abundant forest resources. Since the energy conversion efficiency of heat utilization is higher than that of electricity utilization, heat utilization is desirable for local production and local consumption of woody biomass resources. Residential heat demand accounts for 50% of annual energy consumption, and thus has high potential as a supply source. However, there are very few cases of woody biomass being used for district heat supply in Japan. Therefore, an operational evaluation of a system for supplying woody biomass district heat to a housing group would be effective for the future spread of district heat supply systems in various parts of Japan. This paper reports on a 'survey on the actual operation of the plant-side system when the plant-side pump inverter is in operation' and a 'survey on the actual amount of heat received by consumers' of a wood biomass district heat supply system installed in a housing group located in town A, Tokushima Prefecture.Regarding the survey of the plant side system, it was confirmed that the electricity consumption in the plant for a total of 20 housing units is equal to that of 1.5 to 2 ordinary households. In addition, it was observed that the majority of consumer buildings were able to receive hot water with a temperature drop of around 6°C. Regarding the survey of the customer side, it is estimated that the "actual heat use" by the consumer is approximately 70% of the heat received, due to the large "heat loss in the receiving equipment on the housing side".
