JAUE2017-038: Study On Change of Population and Land Use in Miyagi Pref. By GIS Technology

Abstract

Based on National Land Numerical Information and Census Information, in this paper we described land use 
information of 35 cities of Miyagi Pref. in 1991 and 2006 by GIS technology. And the population density 
information in 1990 and 2005 was published too. The main land use in Miyagi Pref. is forest, farmland and urban. 
Specially, urban was mainly distributed in Sendai City and Higashi Matsushima City. Compared with the urban 
area in 1991, the urban area in 2006 of Miyagi Pref. has increased 48.51%. Being the center of urbans the urban 
area of these cities were gradually becoming lager. The much larger population density urban was distributed in 
Shiogama City, Takadase City and Wakabayashi Ward and Miyagino Ward of Sendai City. Moreover, the 
population density of Miyagi Pref. in 2005 has increased 4.69% than that in 1990. We found the population of
west inland surrounding cities were being smaller, more people was moving into the central and eastern regions. 
We got that with the decreasing population in some cities of Miyagi Pref. the urban areas still became lager.
