Abstract

Social networking has become one of the most important tools of our daily life. The rapid rise of social networking data has given us a new source in terms of how we understand the cities. This paper aims to investigate possibilities of using the Twitter social networking as a source of knowledge for urban planning. This research proposes the use of geo-location tag on the social network with focusing on the segmentation of urban land use. To do this, the clustering technique is used and the case study will be the city of Makassar that is one of the biggest cities in Indonesia. We have found that, the geo-location of social network may also play an important role as the one of the source of information for urban planning.
