With greater importance attached to the aging construction in China, the livable environment and welfare facilities for the elderly will undergo constant changes as well. In this paper, the author makes a comparative and contrasting analysis of the welfare facilities for the elderly and corresponding types in China and Japan, namely the similarities and differences between the two countries in terms of the type classification, scale, functions, staffing and contractor of these facilities. This study will provide a reference for a better understanding of China’s
current welfare facilities for the elderly and based on this offer constructing suggestions on how to advance them. In addition, this study may also contribute to China aging development in the future.
