Abstract

Amid South Koreans' concern for safety and their demand for the safety system improvement by the government being
on the rise due to global warming and social condition changes in recent years, large disaster accidents such as the vessel
Sewol accident and Pangyo conduit crash accident have increased South Koreans' concern and demand for safety system
improvement. In addition, as the people's awareness of safety is increasing to cope with future disasters and calamities, a
safety response system is being worked out at the government's level. To cope with such diverse changes of disasters and
calamities, a response system at the government's level should be prepared, and it is crucial to secure the golden time for
the prevention of large-scale human damage from disasters and calamities in order to construct a disaster management
system. Furthermore, scientific and technological countermeasures against disasters characterized by wide-region and
large-scale coverage should be prepared altogether. Thus, the purpose of this study is to propose to discuss the
construction of a disaster management system by disaster, the analysis of the existing disaster management system with
a view to the practical use and adoption of advanced technology, the analysis of existing R&D results, and a systematic
survey of technological demand in order to protect the people's lives and properties against various disasters and calamities
in South Korea.
