Ancillary room of the stairs are installed to prevent the inflow of air from the living room into the escape stairs.
Due to ancillary room, the occupant always pass through the process of opening the door twice during the evacuation.
In this case, the difference in door arrangement is possible to affect egress time, although that is not a long time.
But there is no criteria and research of ancillary room’s door arrangement in Korea. Therefore, in this study, we
tried to investigate the difference of egress characteristics between door arrangement types through simulation. The
simulation was conducted in eight cases, ranging from 5 to 40 people, depending on the door arrangement type.
Also, egress time for passing through ancillary room based on flow rate was derived and compared with simulation
results.
First of all, we surveyed the current status of ancillary room and found five basic door arrangement type. And
egress time formula for passing through ancillary room derived (T=P/NB1+S/V+P/NB2). As a result of comparing
the egress time using this formula and the egress time derived from the simulation, it was found that the error rate
is at least 0% to 11.7% in total except for the case which the number of crowd is 5
