JAUE2017-118: An Analysis on UAV Accident Case in Korea

Abstract

With the growth of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV) industry, UAV usability and accidents are increasing. As 
such, it is necessary to analyze the case of accidents to prevent UAV accidents at the present time when UAV use 
and accidents are increasing. However, there are no studies that analyzed the cases of UAV accidents in Korea. This 
study, Data Base was constructed for UAV accidents and analyze cases of UAV accidents in Korea. This study has 
analyzed 92 accident case related UAV in Korea. It is confirmed that cases of UAV accidents by year are increasing 
rapidly. Result of analysis on UAV accident cases in Korea, it was confirmed that 51 fall cases(55.43%) and 30 
crash cases(32.61%) occurred and 24 defects of UAV(52.18%) and 16 human factors(34.78%) were main 
factors of accident cases. Also, it was confirmed that damage occurred mainly by 36 additional 
accident(83.72%) through UAV accident. This study is considered that there will be great utilization in the 
construction of the safety system related to UAV in the future by analyzing and providing the accident factor, 
accident type, and accident degree of the UAV accident occurred in Korea.
