Abstract

Being different from the direct and dualistic analysis methods of previous researches on relationship study between urban public space and microclimate, this paper introduced spontaneous activity as a thinking bridge to argue that the impact of microclimate to urban public space is not imaged, but linked and reflected by the spontaneous activities of space users. Taking Wuhan Guanggu Pedestrian Street as an example, the research was completed by four steps. Firstly, summarize the law of spontaneous activities from three aspects: types, intensity and temporal-spatial distributions; secondly, make static and moving measurements of the vitality places and target path, which were impacted by microclimate; then, analyses the correlation between spontaneous activities and microclimate elements, and get four characteristics: temporal and spatial coupling, high temperature avoidance, ventilation preference and diminished tolerance; at last, four public space design strategies were concluded based on microclimate adaptability from the aspects of architectural form, city furniture, paving of underlying surface and green plants.
