Nitro polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (nitro-PAHs) are a class of trace organic pollutants with direct mutagenic and carcinogenic activity. Thus, this paper reviews the NPAHs source, structure and properties, and focuses on the NPAHs in simulated atmospheric aerosols of organic solvent and solid particles surface, and photodissociation behavior of NPAHs in aqueous solution, and points out the environmental implication of the NPAH photolysis.
