Abstract

This article explored the architect responsibility system (ARS) in China, emphasizing its definition, objectives, and challenges in implementation. ARS positions architects as core leaders in design teams, responsible for project oversight across the entire lifecycle of civil and industrial buildings. The study highlighted the need to enhance architects' authority to balance project goals with public interests, addressed current issues like imbalanced rights and responsibilities, and proposes reforms in legal frameworks, fee structures, and professional training. International practices from the U.S., UK, and Japan are referenced to advocate for systemic improvements.
