In this study, we focus on Kohoku New Town (Green Matrix System) and examine the movement of cold air flow from slope-forests to verify effects on mitigating the urban heat-island phenomenon and energy conservation in surrounding urban areas especially in residential houses. Based on the previous research and topography situation, type of slope-forests is categorized. Yamazaki Park and Tsuzuki Chuo Park which have the potential to occur cold air drainage effect were elected and by collecting data of temperature, wind direction and wind speed we analyzed that cold air drainage effect from slope-forests leads to temperature drop at summer night. Furthermore, the ‘yato’ topography shows more accumulation of cold air flow resulting in greater temperature drop.
