JAUE2022-060: Study on Urban Agricultural Land Value in Yokohama, Japan -For Allotment Utilization Potential Evaluation

Abstract

Urban agricultural lands benefit local communities and the environment in various ways: through agricultural production, agricultural experience, community development, rich landscape, comfortable thermal environment, rainfall retention capacity, and open spaces for disaster management. This paper discusses the evaluation of agricultural land “citizen farms” with different values of green infrastructure in Yokohama. Which has a total population of 3.7 million, making the second largest city in Japan. However, even now, the population continues to decline. In this study, we investigated the conservation and utilization of agricultural land using document research and interview survey of people in agriculture and found that various stakeholders engage in urban agriculture and activities in agricultural land although the land area in Yokohama is decreasing. Moreover, the characteristic of urban agricultural land has potential as community farmland. The results of this study will aid in the development of an evaluation method for agricultural land and the effective use of open spaces in an era of shrinking populations
