Abstract

As of 2018, South Korea with its elderly population of 14.37% has become an aged society. Such society manifests itself not only in personal issues but in social ones as well, where the needs of the aging population are increasingly more visible as they seek outdoor activities, pastime activities, leisure pursuits, and other types of social engagements. To satisfy such needs on personal levels, it is important to provide a means of connecting person to
person, space to space, and area to area. Pedestrian walkways in particular serve as a connecting venue for many citizens. This study investigates and analyzes the current status of the paving facilities in the target area (administrative division). Furthermore, a proposal for paving-width expansion is presented to secure the safety of the transportation vulnerable and the effective sidewalk width.
