Route B, the performance-based fire safety verification method, is often used in building design in lapan, but it does not consider the impact of the furniture layout on evacuation time. In this paper, FDS+Evac is used for evacuation simulation in a 186-person classroom with desks. Compared with the esults calculated by Route B, the evacuation time calculated by FDS+Evac is longer than that by Route B method, which shows that FDS+Evac has a more strict assessment. When no furniture is considered the results calculated by these two methods have good correlation, with the biggest difference of only about 10%. While considering the furniture layout, the difference between these two methods is quite large, with the biggest difference of over 40%. It is pointed out that there is a problem because Route B method does not take furniture positions into account, especially when there are some abstacles near the exit after a big earthquake.
