Abstract

The research into drying sludge drying reed bed and it’s application has been in a rapid development in recent years across the world. A number of methane (CH4) gas may emits during a process of operation under the role of soil-vegetation and microbe. To investigate the variation characteristics of CH4 emission from the sludge drying reed bed, an experiment was designed with three beds. BedⅠis a conventional sludge drying bed, no reeds cultivated; Bed Ⅱand Bed Ⅲ were planted with reeds (sludge drying reed bed); BedⅠandⅡ had a vent stack installed underneath. CH4 emissions from these three beds were monitored and analyzed by Static Chamber-Gas Chromatograph method at the same time, and the illumination intensity and temperature were also measured in the mean time. All the data was synthetically analyzed. The results showed that CH4 emissions changed with the growth of plants and the variation of temperature seasonally. CH4 emissions grew slowly in April and May, tended to increase quickly in June and July, and then declined and usually stabilized in September and October. CH4 emission has a certain relationship with illumination intensity in which lower illumination intensity is helpful to CH4 emissions.
