The authors design a folded-plate structure using CLT. Using parametric design in the process of designing a folded-plate structure, the authors define each element constituting a folded-plate structure as a variable, virtually apply estimated loads of housing to an analysis model and discuss the strain energy of each element and their relations at the maximum displacement. The objective of this study is to find the optimal geometry with the objective function of minimizing the floor area and cost per area of wood in a multi-level folded plate structure. While applying the estimated loads to the analytical model, the optimal folding method for a single level model is investigated in this study. In accordance with Article 82, Item 4 of the Building Standards Law Enforcement Order, the CLT portal frame folded plate structure was optimized to maximize the floor area. The authors optimized model that maximizes floor space and lowers costs at multiple levels. In this study, it was found that a 12-meter span at multiple levels can be obtained by using a thin 90 mm CLT folded-plate portal frame structure.
