jaue2019-013: Research and Practical Application of Modular Architectural Design

Abstract

Modular design is the product of the continuous development of the architectural industrialization, and it is also 
one of the green design methods. The modular architectural design contributes to the improvement of construction 
efficiency, the shortening of the construction period, the reduction of cost and the reduction of environmental impact. 
According to the configuration of the unit module, this paper analyzes three common types of modular architectural 
design, which are single unit modular design, double units modular design, and multiple units modular design. 
Taking Mafang Village Kindergarten as an example, this paper conducts functional level splitting of kindergarten 
buildings and discusses the mathematical combination of unit modules in kindergarten building form and space 
design. Finally, this paper explores how to apply modular design methods and how to balance modularity, regionality, 
and originality in architectural design, which provides experience and methodological reference for the architectural 
design in the future.
