jaue2019-016: International Students’ Popular Attitute towards the Evacuation Maps for University Building Egress Information: General Situation in Korea and Promotional Strategies

Abstract

In this study, a survey was conducted to analyze the ways to improve the effectiveness of the Korea’s evacuation 
guide maps for foreign students. In addition, a face-to-face questionnaire examined the requirements which 
respondents wanted to add in the evacuation guide map. As a result, it confirmed that the correlation between the 
basic characteristics of international students and the use of evacuation plan was small. We took improvemental 
ways for the guidance map with a focus to international students, they are as follows. Firstly, the main evacuation 
map plans for international students should be actively promoted through disaster alert texts (SMS) or department 
bulletin boards. Secondly, people usually want to be provided different types of information according to gender, 
an evacuation map should be produced considering their convenience in places where gender differences are needed.
