Abstract

This study addresses the urgent need for sustainable urban wastewater management by proposing a novel sewage generation model tailored for various building types in a northern Chinese city. By leveraging statistical data and probabilistic methods, the model accurately predicts sewage flow and temperature based on daily usage patterns across residential, commercial, educational, and healthcare buildings. Key findings reveal that hotels and residential buildings produce the highest sewage volumes, while restaurants generate the highest temperatures. The model demonstrates strong validation against actual measurements, highlighting its reliability for regional predictions. These insights are critical for optimizing sewage heat recovery systems, thus contributing to energy efficiency and supporting China's ambitious carbon neutrality goals. This research not only advances the theoretical understanding of urban sewage dynamics but also offers practical implications for the design and operation of sustainable wastewater treatment and resource recovery systems.
