JWACA2023-034: Performance Evaluation of Public Open Space in Old-style Unit Communities: A Case Study of Shenyang 204 District

Abstract

At present, the problem of adapting to aging in old communities cannot be delayed. The elderly have a large demand for public space and tend to be in the nearest community service area. At the same time, the old communities in Shenyang are dominated by old-fashioned unit communities, with prominent community characteristics and spatial contradictions. Therefore, it is necessary to comprehensively consider the resource status of the old-type unit community's age-appropriate public open space, and further explore the space performance evaluation of its public space allocation. The research aims to explore the existing problems and impacts of the public open space in the old-fashioned unit community in Shenyang, analyze and construct the basic characteristics of the space, and provide a certain basis for further aging space optimization and planning configuration. Using the method of actual investigation, the quantity and distribution of the existing public open space in Shenyang 204 area were investigated, and the degree of satisfaction of the elderly population with the public open space was sorted through the survey questionnaire. The ArcGIS platform is used to evaluate the spatial performance and the suitability of the elderly in terms of service area and accessibility of public open space. Based on the evaluation of the performance of the old-style unit community’s adaptability public open space, we found the core demands of the elderly group in the old-style unit community, obtained the basic characteristics of its public open space, and put forward the Insufficiencies and deficiencies of the current old-style unit community public open space suitable for aging.
