Abstract

Asbestos has been used for industrial materials as a construction material by its chemical and physical. But the IARC reg-ulated the asbestos as a human carcinogenic substance caused by its harmfulness. The asbestos cement roofing sheets con-tained 1o0% asbestos in South Korea and the asbestos containing construction material is easily crumbled due to the vibra-tion and maintenance of building, so it has a problem that may generate a large amount of asbestos fiber. In this study, the measurement experiment of the amount of emission of asbestos fiber was conducted after the classified Asbestos cement roofing sheets by the extent of the damage in order to examine the extent of the damage of the asbestos roofing sheets. The concentration of sample shows the minimum value 0.174f/cc,maximum value 0.335f/cc, it was minim 17 times and maximum 34 times of the Ministry of Environment indoor air quality criteria (0.01f/cc). To compare the value of asbestos fibrous concentration per unit area and per unit weight, the value of Group A was the smallest (average level 0.179 f/cc· m', 0.0149 f/cc·kg) while that of Group C was the greatest (average level 0.338 f/cc· m', 0.0333 f/cc·kg). In the future, this study result will be used as basic data to quantify the amount of asbestos fiber emitting by the damage to the building asbestos cement roofing sheets due to climate change, disaster or calamity and evaluate risks against surround-ing environment and humans upon the asbestos cement roof damage.
