JAUE2017-004: Study on the Layout Characteristics of Traditional Dwellings in Western Zhejiang Province

Abstract

With the upgrade of the National Beautiful Countryside Construction Progress in 13th five-year Plan of China, 
The objective of construction activities for new rural appearance in Zhejiang province has also evolved from 
simplely ‘environmental beauty’ to ‘life beauty’, and the design of residentical building of zhejiang Style has been 
attached the top priority of the series govermental work. Through in-depth field investigation of about 200 
tranditional dwellings in 16 villages in Quzhou City in western Zhejiang and afterwards analysis on the local 
architectural features, this paper determine the layout characteristics of the local traditional architectureand the 
perservation condition of these features in current rural construction situation. The paper also explain the reasons 
for their evolution from the aspects of local culture and the results can also be reference to practical design 
methods of rural vernacular buildings.
