jaue2015082: A Study on Characteristics of Korean Firefighter’s Awareness on Asbestos

Abstract

Asbestos has been used widely for various uses such as building materials and industrial raw materials around the world. Asbestos is a highly hazardous material. If firefighters are exposed to asbestos in the event of a fire or other disaster, asbestos can give a deadly effect on firefighters. Therefore, it is necessary to provide firefighters with education on asbestos. However, in Korea, education on asbestos is not provided to firefighters. In addition, there is little discussion and research on asbestos education for firefighters. Therefore, this study analyzes the characteristics of Korean firefighter’s awareness on asbestos through survey to provide basic data for asbestos education for firefighters. The significance of the study lies in its being the first to analyze the characteristics of Korean firefighter’s awareness on asbestos when there is little research on firefighter’s awareness of asbestos. Results of this study are expected to be useful as basic data when planning firefighter’s education on asbestos.
