Abstract

Residents in complicated buildings are informed of evacuation directions and the presence of emergency exits using exit signs. In South Korea, however, exit signs are installed at fixed locations and straight-line distances regardless of their cognition angles and distances. Therefore, in this study, the cognition distance was measured according to the cognition angle of each exit sign type through a cognition distance measurement experiment. As a result, the cognition distance decreased as the cognition angle decreased regardless of the exit sign type, indicating that the cognition angle affects the cognition of exit signs.
