JAUE2018-078 Estimation of Waste Transportation Costs Due to Saturation of Landfills

Abstract

In this research, the amount of landfill waste transported to other regions is estimated by comparing total landfill waste quantity for each region and local landfill throughput. The transportation cost is calculated based on dump trucks. After this, landfill waste quantity in the next decade is calculated based on landfill waste generation in 2016. It is then compared and analyzed with local landfill capacity. The cost for new landfill establishment is finally derived from the prior comparative analysis. It is shown that transportation costs in Gyeonggi, Jeonnam, and Gangwon exceed establishment costs within a decade, and the cost-saving effect reaches approximately 157.9 billion won.
