Abstract

The student room as a place of education requires tranquility and comfort in the learning process. The primary
functions of the student room are for learning, group learning, meetings, and various activities related to this where
good speech communication is critical to a student’s academic achievement. To improve the effectivity and
productivity of lecture activities, then this study was conducted at the Student Computer Lab (N160) of Graduate
School of Information, Production and Systems, Waseda University, Hibikino, Kitakyushu, Japan. The study was
based on the experience of authors in the use of existing classrooms in aspects of the auditory and visual
environment. The method used is to make existing building models, measuring the condition of the room using
formulas and software, and developing a comparison of modifications (after change) based on several modifications
of the room materials. In this study, the reverberation time is calculated manually with the Sabine Formula while
the DIALux evo software is used to assist in the design of artificial lighting systems and illuminance distribution.
The result of the evaluation was then compared to the standard as a comparison and workable improvement to
enhance the acoustic quality and lighting performance of the room.
