Abstract

The architectural orientation of courtyard buildings and the type of building enclosure are important factors that affect the indoor thermal comfort of this type of building. This research considers traditional dwellings in Kashgar. Use the software to analyze the indoor thermal comfort of buildings in summer by changing the combination of main rooms’ orientations and the building enclosure, the thermal comfort of residents indoors can be improved. The following conclusions are obtained: (1) In summer, different building enclosure types have their own suitable orientations for the main room. The best orientation of Front Yard Type is east; the best orientation of Middle Yard Type is west or north; the best orientation of L Yard Type is north; the best orientation of C Yard Type is south; and the best orientation of O Yard Type is south. (2) The higher the building enclosure, the higher the comfort hours and the better the comfort. In terms of comfort hours, O Yard Type (optimal orientation) can increase comfort time by 34.3% over Front Yard Type (optimal orientation) in summer. (3) This study can provide scientific guidance for the new construction and renovation of courtyard buildings in cold regions.
