Abstract

In building fires, Emergency Public Address System (EPAS) aids quick evacuation via accurate descriptions. However, in Korea, EPAS relies on power values with no volume standards, leading to varied volume levels in different buildings. This study evaluated EPAS volume perception using Electroencephalography (EEG). Volume levels (80, 85, 90, 95 dB) were derived from a field survey and measured using RLB~mid beta to theta(RSMT) index for concentration and recognition. The 95 dB group exhibited significant differences in P7 (sense area) during sound for males, suggesting more evacuation movement. In the 90 dB female group during voice, Fp2, F4, F7, FZ (cognitive area), C4, P8 (motor area), and T4 (auditory area) showed higher cognitive activity. These results can serve as foundational data for EPAS volume standards.
