Abstract

In recent years, across the globe, the number of maritime accidents is increasing due to increased marine traffic
volume, the speeding up of vessels, and increased size of vessels. In particular, maritime accidents lead to the
secondary accident of marine environmental pollution caused by the wreck or overturn of ships. The causes of ocean
pollution include domestic sewage, agricultural and livestock wastewater, industrial wastewater, and marine oil
spills. Of these, the marine oil spills account for the majority of marine pollution.
Thus, there is a growing interest in the development of marine pollution prevention technology to prevent the
environmental pollution caused by maritime accidents. This study examined marine pollution accidents at home
and abroad as part of the basic research in line with the development of marine pollution prevention technology in
South Korea. The purpose of this study is to analyze the development trend of marine pollution prevention
technology in South Korea and to explore efficient research and development measures for marine pollution
prevention technology
