The building becomes aged as time goes on and there is performance degradation due to the damages such as
exfoliation. So, continuous maintenance is necessary and the buildings in Korea are maintained based on “Detailed
Guideline for Facility Safety Management and Precision Safety Inspection” regulated by Ministry of Land,
Infrastructure, and Transport in Korea. However, the existing visual inspection method to detect the exfoliation of
building outer wall has a limitation that it is difficult to access by human for high-rise buildings as well as it has low
reliability and subjective because the building outer wall is inspected by relative expert with the visual inspection.
In this study, the exfoliation of building outer wall has been detected and quantified using Unmanned Aerial Vehicle
easily access and possible to acquire objective information. This study was acquired 214 aerial photographs from
Unmanned Aerial Vehicle by selecting site the Shinbang Branch of Jayang Elementary School in Yeongcheon-si,
Gyeongbuk-do, in Korea. Then, the spatial information were constructed based on point cloud. Also, 0.0104" of
exfoliation on the building were detected based on the constructed spatial information. It is judged that this study
will be useful as a basic study when develop the unmanned aerial vehicle safety inspection technology in the future.
