The 2021 China Housing Stock Report shows that the total housing stock in China is approximately 3490 km².
Compared to the occident (France, the United States) stock of approximately 2460 km²and Japan’s 540 km²,
China's total housing stock is significantly higher than the major developed economies. According to statistics, the
urban housing stock in the 1980s and 1990s reached 20 km², and it was difficult to meet the needs of modern people.
In recent years, China has attached great importance to the renovation of existing residential buildings and has
implemented a multi-participation renovation policy. This article introduces the VR based on BIM+Fuzor to discuss
how to use new technology to assist residents in participating in the transformation design. The research found that:
①VR can summarize the corresponding interior quality improvement methods for different families; ②Users can
experience different modified spaces, and provide direct feedback to improve user satisfaction after the
transformation; ③Different age structures have different acceptance of new technologies. The innovation of this
research is that VR reduces the cost of user participation in design. However, market and cost still limit VR to largescale
renovation of indoor spaces.
